Get to Know Me...
My name is Barksdale Matkins and I am from a small (but wonderful) town called Wilson, NC. I graduated from East Carolina University, majoring in Middle Grades Education, concentrations in Mathematics and Social Studies. I graduated in May 2013 with my Master's Degree in Mathematics Education. I have a large family and I love spending as much time as I possibly can with them. I got married in April 2015 to a wonderful man who is the Principal of Pactolus School. Between the two of us, we come home with some entertaining stories about our days at school. We had a little girl (Baylor) in September of 2017 and now our lives revolve completely around her.
I knew I wanted to become a teacher when I was a junior in high school and, of course, East Carolina was the best place to go for this career pathway. I chose to teach middle school because I had such a wonderful experience throughout my middle school years and I would love to be able to give my students the same feeling. These three years in middle school are critical for adolescents and I am looking forward to helping them along the confusing/fun/crazy journey.
Other than spending time with my family, friends, and dogs, I love watching/playing any sport, being outside, and going to the beach. My absolute favorite thing to do in the fall is to be in Dowdy Ficklen Stadium watching ECU football games!!! I am a die-hard Pirate fan and love cheering on Coach Mo and the boys every Saturday! I am excited about this upcoming school year at C.M. Eppes and I look forward to working with each and every one of you! Feel free to contact me anytime!
